OBS! Guarana bör undvikas under graviditet och amning.
Lose weight with Guarana
Guarana is a trendy energy drink and weight loss supplement. The effectiveness of Guarana is often attributed to its high caffeine content. In 2001, researchers at the Obesity Research Center at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and Department of Medicine studied a mixture of Guarana, MaHuang, and other ingredients to examine its effectiveness for weight loss and to investigate whether it is safe for use.
The subjects of the 8-week-long placebo-controlled study were 67 overweight men and women who were randomly assigned either to the placebo or the active group. A total of forty-eight people from both groups (24 subjects from each group) completed the 8-week-long study while others withdrew out of the study due to the fear of possible side effects of the ingredients. Each participant of the active group was administered 72 milligrams of the mixture of the herbal supplement each day.
The study found that weight loss and fat reduction were more profound in the active group participants than the placebo group. Moreover, the hip circumferences and serum levels of the active group participants were also greatly reduced. The side effects of the mixture found in the study were the headache, dry mouth, and insomnia. The study concluded that a mixture of Ma Huang and Guarana are good for short-term weight loss.

Improve your task performance throughout the day with Guarana
Guarana extracts boast rich nutrients that are said to have psychoactive effects. This is the reason they are being used increasingly in foods, drinks and supplements. However, very little effort has been made to substantiate scientifically whether these extracts truly feature the claimed psychoactive effects.
A 2004 research conducted into Panax ginseng extracts found similar, possibly effective constituents. It is worth mentioning here that Panax ginseng extracts are typically sold along with guarana. The placebo-controlled study involved 28 healthy subjects in the age bracket of 18 to 24 years who were administered a mixture of 75mg/200 milligrams of dried ethanolic extract of guarana and Panax ginseng respectively. The task performances of participants were evaluated at varying hours before and after the dose.
In relation to the placebo group, the active group demonstrated enhanced task performance all through the day. On days when the participants were administered only the guarana, they did show improvements in task performance, but with decreased precision. Moreover, both the ginseng and the ginseng/guarana mixture resulted in enhanced task performance and memory speed and showed only a little indication of reduced accurateness.
The study concluded that guarana and ginseng exhibit psychoactive properties and effects, meaning they have the power to improve task performance.
